PAN and PARANG IN ST. JAMES

The joy of the holiday season begins in St. James this weekend with the lighting of the trees and a variety of holiday performances at the St. James Amphitheatre and Park, Western Main Road, St. James.

An initiative by the St. James Community Improvement Committee (CIC), the Christmas Concerts will take place on three (3) nights.

It is the wish of the community-based organization that these festive family-friendly programs will somehow bring seasonal cheer and goodwill.

On the first night, Sunday December 10, Sharlene Flores & Flores De San Jose and Luces Brillantes will be the featured performers, filling the air with the sweet sounds of parang. The lights will be turned on before the start of the concert at 7:00 pm adding to the yuletide ambience.

The Christmas program continues on Sunday December 17 with the popular community steelbands, St. James Tripolians and Scrunter’s Pan Groove. Patrons will be treated to the sounds of parang, soca parang and traditional carols played on steelpans.

Come Wednesday December 20, the St. James Police Youth Club will take centre stage adding to the festive fare. One each of the night seasonal music will be provided by DJ Jeffrey.

All events start at 7:00 pm and is free to the public.
