Northern Region Pan Trinbago J’Ouvert Bomb Competition Results

Massy Trinidad All Stars copped the Northern Region Pan Trinbago J’Ouvert Bomb Competition at Victoria Square, Port of Spain.

The band scored 189 points with their rendition of “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You” to Shell Invaders’ 185 points.   The latter performed “My Way.” Six (6) bands competed in the Conventional Bands category.  First Citizen Supernovas was the lone entrant in the Out of the Region class, The other category, Single Pan Bands, attracted five entrants, with Ice Water taking the lead with 183 points.

At the bp Renagades competition point, Charlotte Street, Port of Spain, both Massy Trinidad All Stars and Shell Invaders tied for the top placing with Musical Gems taking the third spot.

Requirement is that participating bands perform a classical piece of music or a non-calypso tune arranged and played in calypso tempo.

The musical form was not a new idea as pannists were known to “drop a bomb” on the road at Carnival and other music events prior to 1963.

Pan Trinbago honoured Neville Jules by naming its annual J’Ouvert morning steelpan competition the “Neville Jules Bomb Competition.

In other related news, Nutrien Silver Stars and Courts Sound Specialists of Laventille were awarded the Pan Trinbago/bmobile People’s Choice in their respective Large and Medium Band categories. Patrons were asked to text their favourite band’s code during the National Panorama Semi Finals and Finals.
