Colin Lucas resigns as NCC chairman

The culture ministry is today denying rumours that former National Carnival Commission (NCC) chairman Colin was fired.

In a release Monday, the ministry moved to dispel the rumor.

The statement said, “Mr Lucas, having been appointed to the position of chairman on November 16th, 2017, acted as executive chairman of the NCC for the period December 8th, 2017 to April 20th, 2018 in the absence of a CEO. Mr Lucas is an experienced CEO, whose competencies match very closely those critically needed at the NCC at this time.”

In light of this, consideration is being given to his appointment as interim CEO of the organisation until this position can be filled. This necessitated his resignation from the position of chairman on April 20th, 2018, which was filled by Winston ‘Gypsy’ Peters.”

Peters, a veteran calypsonian, served as president and the Trinbago Unified Calypsonian Organisation (TUCO) as well Minister in the Ministry of Culture and Minister of Culture under the United National Congress’ terms of office.

As new Carnival boss, the release said, Peters brought a wealth of experience to the position citing his long-standing career in the field of culture both as both a practitioner and administrator.

“He is dedicated to the service of Trinidad and Tobago and to successfully executing and promoting Trinidad and Tobago’s Carnival,” the statement continued.
